Probability of either a or b occuring
Webb11 mars 2024 · This equation computes the probability that either one of two events will both happen. WebbIf the events A and B are not mutually exclusive, then p (A or B) = p (A) + p (B) - p (A and B). The logic behind this formula is that when p (A) and p (B) are added, the occasions on which A and B both occur are counted twice. To adjust for this, p (A and B) is subtracted.

WebbWhen two events are independent, the probability of both occurring is the product of the probabilities of the individual events. P(Aand B) for independent events If events Aand Bare independent, then the probability of both Aand B occurring is [latex]P\left(A\text{ and }B\right)=P\left(A\right)\cdot{P}\left(B\right)[/latex] WebbAnswer (1 of 3): Using PIE, we have P(A or B) = P(A) + P(B) - P(A and B); by mutual exclusion, P(A and B) = 0. Thus the answer is 1.1, which of course is meaningless. This would be like tossing a coin ten times and getting 11 heads.

Webb17 sep. 2015 · If A and B are mutually exclusive then P ( A ∩ B) = 0. For a), take into account that P ( A ∪ B) = P ( A) + P ( B) − P ( A ∩ B). For b), note that the probability of B … WebbTo find the probability of either X or Y occurring, use the formula for the probability of the union of two events: P(X or Y) = P(X) + P(Y) - P(X and Y) = 0.55 + 0.35 - 0.20 = 0.70 Question 7. Part a. The probability of selecting an adult who attended six or more movies per month is 50/500, or 0.1. Part b
WebbIt states that the probability of either event occurring is the sum of probabilities of each event occurring. If A and B are said to be mutually exclusive events then the probability of an event A occurring or the …
